Verification of Turbid Parenterals with new Seidenader
S-Turb Inspection Module
With the increase of biotech products more and more drug formulations result in slight turbid forms. For the distinction of the different levels of turbidity, Seidenader Maschinenbau GmbH, one of the leading suppliers of automatic inspection machines for the pharmaceutical industry, have released a new series of inspection modules.
Turbidity sensing can be used for a variety of applications:
To separate different product families or concentrations of agents
For the naked eye or a standard camera many products are alike. The Seidenader systems identify reliably product concentration within very narrow bands, as low as 6 NTU. Cross contamination risks are minimized, unlabelled products can be clearly attributed.
To prove correct concentration of active ingredient within a
product family
Some products are not homogeneous. These formulations have the tendency to settle out rapidly if not in constant motion. Interruptions in the filling process can lead to inconsistency of distribution of crystals or proteins, which might cause an improper dosing of active ingredients. Seidenader’s S-Turb module monitors the proper concentration by checking the product’s turbidity for example after agitating the product through rotation or directly after filling.
Different technologies for different forms of turbid product
Turbidity is a wide term. It reaches from quite “clear” and translucent appearance to very heavy suspensions or emulsions. Seidenader have developed tools which cover the entire range of these appearances, providing the right technology for each individual mix of products.
The Seidenader S-Turb modules have been successfully integrated to check and separate vaccines, insulins of different concentrations and other biological products at production speeds of 600 units / min. The S-Turb inspection modules are usually integrated in Seidenader’s automatic inspection machines, but could also be added to other machines like fillers to monitor the product concentration right after filling, or on labelling machines to ensure that the product concentration matches the label applied to the product.
